A Winter Wonderland
Glen Tanar wedding photography. Photographing this winter wedding at Glen Tanar Estate was an absolute dream, it was a true winter wonderland the scenery there is just breathtaking. Inspired by their surroundings Jessica and Cameron opted for a woodland inspired theme, bringing some of the outside in. Bride Jessica’s hugely talented sister and florist Flowers by Lilybet decorated the hall with beautiful wild winter inspired florals. Bringing the outdoors in with beautiful woodland inspired details, pinecones, fairy lights and lanterns which lined the aisle for the ceremony, the room looked truly magical.
Highlights from the day have to be the couple portraits in the snow, beautiful ceremony and sparkler group photo with all the wedding guests. The sparkler shot is one of those photos that can so easily go wrong, mainly as it involves a lot of excited well-oiled guests playing with fire, but done properly it can be so much fun and produce some amazing images. This is probably my favourite wedding sparkler shot to date.
One of the reasons I love winter weddings so much is the cozy feeling of everyone huddled indoors celebrating and having fun. They can be a challenge to photograph with a short window for daylight portraits, challenging low light situations and trying not to blind everyone with flash all day long. Despite the challenges I love capturing the atmospheric tones and using the low light to create emotive images with a feeling of romance.
In my opinion Glen Tanar with it’s beautiful large fireplace, dark wood and over 700 antlers set amongst the stunning Aberdeenshire countryside. has to be up there as one of the best locations for a winter wedding and I hope to be back there soon!
Congratulations Jessica and Cameron, I’m so happy to have been a part of your incredible day.
