The Ballroom at Glen Tanar Estate is a beautiful historic room built in 1869 with original vaulted ceiling adorned with 700 antlers and beautiful oak floor. The room boasts a large open fireplace, perfect for a winter wedding with a dusting of snow. With a help from the bride and co. Jessica’s hugely talented sister and florist extraordinaire decorated the hall with beautiful wild winter inspired florals round the chandeliers and above the fireplace bringing some of the outdoors in, along with pinecones, fairy lights and lanterns which lined the aisle for the ceremony, the room looked truly magical. Liesbeth also hand crafted Jessica’s beautiful bouquet, the men’s buttonholes and bridesmaid bouquets, they all looked so beautiful, she really did an outstanding job.
Jessica wore a 2nd hand dress from a shop in Edinburgh, it’s beautiful simplicity was just perfect for a snowy winter wedding, teamed with her veil and feather inspired hairpiece from ASOS. Paula Beattie did a superb job on makeup, as did Hairdresser Michelle Reid, not just super talented but both clam, relaxed people to have around on your wedding day.
After the beautiful ceremony taken by family friend Humanist Clare Harris in the Ballroom, guests were treated to mulled cider and treats whilst we nipped out for some portraits. The countryside setting at Glen Tanar is just breathtaking, and just what Jessica and Cameron wished for on their wedding day, to get married amidst the beauty of the Aberdeenshire countryside. There are so many places for portraits and Jessica and Cameron had set plenty of time aside in the daylight for some atmospheric shots by the water, along with some snowy portraits in front of the Ballroom with the last of the day’s light.
The tables were set with beautiful little handmade woodland inspired details and guests were welcomed with a beautiful hand painted welcome sign by artist Amy Singer. Catering team Hudsons provided a wonderful meal for guests (and me, thank you!)
One of the reasons I love winter weddings so much is the cozy feeling of everyone huddled indoors celebrating and having fun. We have so many beautiful winter wedding venues in Scotland, with roaring fires, historic buildings and beautiful countryside. In my opinion Glen Tanar has to be up there as one of the best locations for a winter wedding and I hope to be back there soon!
Congratulations Jessica and Cameron, I’m so happy to have been a part of your incredible day.
